TIBET’s UNIQUE HORSE CULTURE- THE FESTIVALS OF NAGCHU AND DAMSHUNG- WITH A TREK OVER THE VAST CHANGTHANG.

The enclosed programs have never been offered before. TigerPaw with its pioneering spirit bring you two unique opportunities both foot and horse treks with the help of small Tibetan mountain ponies. Both programs are built around unique festivals featuring the horse in uniquely Tibetan fashion.

The Nagchu festival is a bit earlier than the Damshung one, each lasts about three days so it's conceivable to see both (Damshung is in between Lhasa and Nagchu, latter being a few hundred kilometers from Lhasa. This is wide-open country, called the Chang-tang ("Northern Plain"), and so you can ride with a sense of abandon.

George Schaller, the famous conservationist and snow leopard biologist, recently commented on how pleased he was with the wildlife gains that had occurred just west of Nagchu since he first went ten years ago.

The programs will operate by entering from Nepal overland and include a rafting trip there.

Prices quoted include all land and service costs, including:

  • Transportation -- to and from airport and for entire trip in appropriate vehicles (bus for larger group on good roads, 4wd land cruiser for smaller groups and/or poor roads), truck or appropriate vehicle for support supplies.
