SAMPLE EXTRACTS FROM OUR 7-DAY VOLCANO AVENUE RIDE

Departures: Year round

Day 1 VIUDITA
Level difficulty 2 riding time 4:hrs After a 3 to 4 hour ride from the hacienda you’ll have a spectacular view.

DAY 2 CLOUDY RAIN FOREST
A 5 hour ride into completely different environment in the Bomboli Reserve or “Dark Forest”, where you will be able to explore an exciting change of vegetation. After 2 ½ hours riding up to 3.500 meters and then start to descend toward the coast.

Day 3-4 CORAZON
Riding time 7hrs This majestic mountain overlooks the Aloag valley from our viewing point at (4.500 meters). And then continue towards the Ilinizas peak, which is covered by snow most of the year. You will have a great possibility to see a Condor. Next day ride will be back through the Cotopaxi Park.

Day 5
...The Pasochoa Natural Park and peaks up to 4200 meters

Day 6-7 Ruminahui and Surroundings
Level difficulty 2 riding time: 5: hrs.We start our ride toward the south of Machachi entering to the slopes of Ruminahui upwards to San Francisco through the sand hills next to the rock, where the magnificent Cotopaxi presents the most imposing scenery also surrounded by the Ilinizas, Sincholagua mountains, and the different valleys providing a perfect spot to take a break for lunch. We continue to Limpiopungo Lake and arrive to a lodge to have dinner, hot shower and spend the night.

    COTOPAXI AND TRAIN RIDE
    Level difficulty 2 train ride 1:30 hrs riding time 4:00 hrs. Travel by train from Alegria Farm to the Cotopaxi, the railway line passes at the back park of the farm house and is a more novel way to reach the Hacienda is by train from Quito, as the old railway line to Cotopaxi passes by.

    THE LOCAL CULTURE
    La Alegría is a working farm with nearly 250 head of cattle, producing dairy products and meat by organic methods. You can join in farming activities such as milking the cows or feeding the calves, or try lassoing a bull. Visit Machachi market with its local colour At certain times of year we can also visit the fiestas and bullfights in local villages.

    FAUNA
    This area is also rich ground for nature lovers, with several species of Andean fauna and birds.

We offer riding lessons on well-trained horses to make sure that you will be able to ride on the different trails through the mountains that surround the farm. We will make sure you do this activity safely and enjoy it.

    BIRD-WATCHING
    If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of the Andean condor, visible from high mountains, sparrow hawks, caracaras, owls, linnets and various species of hummingbird.
